The brake is one of the frequently operated elevator safety components, which can stop the electric motor of the elevator from rotating without power supply and effectively stop the car. The safe operation of the elevator is closely related to the working condition of the brake. A large number of accident cases have shown that one of the main reasons for elevator personal injury accidents is the failure of the brake or the existence of design defects, which leads to phenomena such as top punching, bottom sliding, sliding, and shearing of the elevator. Therefore, it is particularly important to strengthen the safety inspection of elevator brakes

1. Common problems, safety requirements, and inspections of the mechanical part of the brake

1.1 Common problems with the mechanical part of the brake

The common problems with the mechanical part of elevator brakes are as follows.

(1) The stroke indicator collides with the movable indicator, and some manufacturers' designers lack thoughtful consideration for the installation of the stroke indicator.

(2) Long term use causes the brake shoe to fall off and the adhesive to loosen (some brakes are bonded rather than riveted).

(3) The sealing rubber has aged and broken, causing foreign objects to fall into it, causing the brake to jam.

(4) The electromagnet core rusts, causing the brake to jam.

(5) The design of the elevator iron core guide mechanism is unreasonable, and multiple fractures occurred at the connection between the copper rod and the iron core, resulting in brake jamming.

(6) Elevator maintenance personnel have improper methods for inspecting and maintaining brakes.
